Description Compact Hi Fi System made in Japan by Sony with sections for radio and double tape cassette. Stereo Deck Receiver, model number is HST-750W. Numbered separately are turntable and CD player which go with the system, plus speakers. System is fitted with a cable and plug plus a wire for radio reception.
The system was acquired by the donor's husband in the year the system was produced. It was requested as part-payment for some building work he completed for the owner of a Glasgow shop called General Dealer, located near The Barras (Barrowlands) area. The shop was a type of pawn brokers, but the building has now been demolished.
The stereo system was one of the new generation of 'compact' or midi multi-media sound systems which marked the beginning of the transition period of technology in the 1980s from vinyl records and cassette tapes to CDs. It was much smaller than the then-current stacking systems which were the size of a small cabinet.
