Name/Title Hilt, sword
Measurements H 15 W 1.5 D 10.5cm (H 5 7/8 W 9/16 D 4 1/8")
Media/Materials steel/metal
Description Basket hilt of Cov sword (no blade) found in thatched roof of cottage nr Drumclog, January 1928. Marked on brass disk: 'Exchanged with Sir George Stirling, Dumbarton Castle.'
KP found this item in store in Sep 08 in a box indicating it was to be brought to Will Murray for conservation. The conservation details included in this record indicate that object was conserved however notes refer to a blade and this object does not have a blade attached. It was found in a box along with a blade, marked as DB201, but that blade is the wrong size to fit this item. The hilt also has a circular label with W9 written on it but that number matches up with a record for a rifle.
Theme Our History --Arms and Armour --Edged Weapons
