Name/Title Helmet
Description Metal helmet with padded inner and chainmail. With ornate carving.
Not a lot is known about this helmet and why it is part of our collection. It is believed to be Islamic in origin. Helmets like this are known as ‘BAYDAH’ consisting of a conical shaped helmet with chain mail (AVENTAIL) to protect the neck and shoulders. The red padding would have supported the chain mail body armour from rubbing on the neck and shoulders of the wearer.
