Description
| Single, large-bladed knife, in leather scabbard with white metal mounts. The handle is of carved, dark-coloured wood adorned with white metal studs. The pommel is round and flat with a raised crown on an engraved background with a stud in the centre. The white metal collar around the throat of the scabbard is engraved with a stylised badge of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) consisting of a five-pointed Douglas star above a stringed bugle - between the strings are the initials SR. There are two additional collars spaced between the throat and tip of the scabbard; one decorated with an engraved Sphynx, the other engraved with a Dragon. The Sphynx and Dragon represent the two main battle honours awarded to The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles); the Sphynx for the service of the 90th in Egypt, 1801, and the Dragon for the service of the 26th in China, 1840. |
