The 1960s saw an explosion in air travel as wages rose in the post-war boom and flight prices fell. For the first time working class families could afford to travel abroad. Places like Benidorm and Majorca became popular with British holidaymakers, although as the flight guide inside this magazine shows other destinations such as Greece, Cyprus and Scandinavia were being opened up to British tourists. British European Airways (BEA) was one of the largest operators, and along with British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) dominated the UK market. The two merged to form British Airways in 1974. |
