The Canon AE-1 SLR was revolutionary in its own right. Made between 1976 and 1984, it was the first camera to contain a microprocessing unit. Its ease of use and affordability helped fuel a new generation of photography enthusiasts, bringing more "serious" photography to the masses. With these attributes it sold over a million units - figures then unheard of for an SLR.
