Description
| Handloom made by Arrol Young of Galashiels incorporates a fly-shuttle mechanism. This was one of the most important innovations in the weaving industry during the 18th Century. The mechanism was invented in 1733 by John Kay, a handloom weaver from Lancashire. The fly-shuttle allowed the cloth to be woven twice as fast as was previously possible. |
