Description Bronze, circular plaque, also known as a Death Penny, given to the family of a service person who died on active service during the First World War. Plaque shows the figure Britannia with trident, placing a laurel wreath on rectangular tablet bearing the recipients name. In front stands the British lion, with dolphins in the upper field, an oak branch lower right, and a lion cub clutching a fallen eagle in the exergue. The inscription around the circumference reads HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOUR. This plaque named to DAVID HARKES. Small number 46 stamped to the rear of the lion's hind leg indicates this plaque was made by the Memorial Plaque Factory, Acton. Reverse plain. Private David Harkes was killed while serving with the 1/5th The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in the First World War.
