Media/Materials steel/metal
Description Persian light arm shield. Half cylinder shape with light metal chain to go around arm. Engraved decoration on front with black coating on the reverse.
Preliminary research on the internet suggests this particular armour is known as a bazuband or bazu band, a type of bracer worn on the fore-arm. These often appear to come as part of a three-piece set, comprising of the bazuband (above), the khula khud (plate helmet with chain mail neck guard), and the dhal (sheild). They are generally described as being Indo-Persian and often date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century. Pictures viewed on various auction websites show the above bracer-type of armour attached to a leather and chain mail glove to protect the hand. Presumably the two steel plates attached to the other side protect the vulnerable area on the inside of the wrist and act as a fastener to hold the armour in place. It would seem that this piece of armour would be worn on the weapon weilding arm, while the other arm would be used for the shield.
