Description German bayonet and scabbard. Long, single edged blade which widens towards the tip. The reverse of the blade has been filed to create a serrated, 'sawback' effect. There is a shallow fuller on either side of the blade close to the saw edge. One side of the ricasso (base of blade) is stamped 'SIMSON & CO SUHL'. The back of the blade, below the serrated edge bears a number of stamps, among them a crown and the number 15 - most likely to represent the year of issue as 1915. The crossguard loops down and out towards the pommel and ends in a rounded tip. The reverse of the guard has curved edges, or ears, in place of a muzzle-ring. The grips are made of wood with a small oil hole near the guard. There are nine parallel grooves on the grip running diagonally from the back of the grip down to the front. The grips are held in place by two rivets. There are stamps on the rivets on the handle and also on the pommel below the press-release mechanism. The scabbard is of steel with a large oval stud at the tip.
