Statement from artist in accession file:
"This print is an etching which I did in the late nineteen seventies when my parents moved over to Italy in their retirement from the grocery business. In my mind it represented them enjoying a pleasant existence in their final years, which they did.
I left the Glasgow School of Art in 1975 where I specialised in lithography and etching. This print was done in the Glasgow Print Studio which I joined after leaving art school in order to continue printing. In 1978 I received a Scottish Arts Council Award, and then in 1980 I was awarded a three months residency in the SAC Amsterdam studio where I began to develop my painting skills.
This etching is one of the last prints that I have done as I have concentrated on painting for the past twenty years. My painting style and subject matter has changed gradually over the years and I now paint almost exclusively in acrylics, the subject matter being mostly landscape, although I still do figurative work as well."

Father and Mother was a gift to his parents when they moved back to Italy for their retirement. This sensitive image represents them enjoying a pleasant life in their final years.

This etching is one of Nardini’s last prints - since the late 1970s he has concentrated on painting. He began painting figuratively and was greatly inspired by American artist Edward Hopper, as he was drawn to the mystery and intrigue created in Hopper's figure compositions. Nardini now prefers to paint landscapes inspired by Glasgow, Tuscany and most recently Southern California. He uses acrylic paints, bright colours and simple shapes, again influenced by the work of Edward Hopper.

Nardini has exhibited intensively throughout Scotland and in London and his work is held in private collections in Europe and U.S.A. As well as being talented visual artist, Nardini is also a musician, playwright, poet and teacher.
