Description
| Four blue fabric chevrons sewn onto a green, course fabric backing. These are overseas service stripes, as worn by British soldiers in the First World War. Each of the blue chevrons represent a year spent by a soldier overseas. Service stripes for 1914 were in red; stripes for the rest of the war (1915-1919) were blue. As there are four blue chevron on this particular patch, this could represent service overseas from 1915-1918, or from 1916 until 1919. This patch belonged to 240240 Sergeant Duncan Black who served with the 6th Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in the First World War. |
