Very pretty presentation child's mug with Hamilton coat of arms.

Knowledge Harvesting data from Curator as part of Succession Planning project:

"What I’m looking at is the object with accession number 80.1184 and it’s a very pretty and presentation mug which has a Hamilton coat of arms of around 100 years ago. It is a colour transfer on to the white glaze of the mug

Maker is the Nautilus pottery a Scottish pottery.

We have 3 such mugs in the collection. During the time of the last duke to live in the Palace the Hamilton family used to present such a mug to the children of tenants on their birthdays together with a colouring book and a paint and brush set.

Once when I was giving a talk and another time in the museum two people have come forward to tell me about the presentation of these mugs to their grand-parents.

In a very good condition and still has a gold rim

This mug was featured as the object of the month for June 2010 at Low Parks Museum together with object no: 80.1249."
