Description Painting, Oil on canvas. Showing a group of men (7 standing, 9 seated) around large table, some looking at books and maps. Japanese folding screen and coat of arms at back. Globe and rolled plans at lower left.
Unglazed. Unsigned.

Plaque found 23/09/2013, that most likely would have been on display with painting, reads as follows:

"Hamilton Town Council, 1881-82

Standing - Councillors Purdie, Brown, Tainsh. Provost Cassels. WM. Dalziel (Town Officer), Councillor Wylie.

Sitting - Councillors Cross & Rae. Bailies Thorburn, Archibald & Paterson. E.P. Dykes (Town Clerk). Councillors Patrick & Small. Treasure Jas. Keith. Bailie Sommerville.

Councillor Bertram is not in the picture."
