Description Trench Periscope - 'The Lifeguard Patent Periscope Sole Maker F. Duerr & Sons Manchester SW'. Two mirrors mounted on metal plates, connected by an extendable metal trellis.
The firm of F.Duerr & Son is still in existence but is best known for producing jam. The periscope was invented by Edgar Duerr, who was a keen inventor as well as working in the family business. This type of periscope was widely used in the First World War.
