The firm of Port Dundas Pottery Co. was established in 1828, although the name had previously been used at several different sites. It was founded by William Johnstone in an area just north of Glasgow to make salt-glazed stoneware. The works were purchased by James Miller in 1856, who introduced a number of innovations, mechanised the works and began to manufacture a greater range of products. Bottles, jars and domestic wares were then produced and items were exported to South America. Items are marked with Port Dundas Pottery Co.
