| Ceramic storage jar. Glazed with multi-colour glazes, barrel-shape, 'Flour' in raised letters on side. Brown, green, with lid. Made by Rosslyn Pottery.
The Rosslyn Pottery was established in Kirkcaldy in 1879 by Morrison & Crawford. It produced Rockingham-glazed teapots and Majolica wares, including distinctive storage barrels for kitchen goods. The majolica was glazed in green, brown and blue on a buff-coloured body. A distinctive spotted effect was created on the ware due to the colour being applied with twigs.
One of three jars marked 'Sugar, Meal and Flour' with blue, green and mustard-coloured glaze.
Was on display in Low Parks Museum in the Victorian Kitchen until 1993/4. |
