Description One side is green with crest of The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and roman numerals IV for the 4th Battalion. The other side is yellow with personal crest of Lt.Col D Blaikie-Hislop and motto 'Virtute et Fidelitate'. The banner is made of silk, decorated with heavy silver embroidery and with velvet used for the crown. It is edged with silver braid on each side.
In a letter the donor explains, "The banner was a gift presented to him, by his brother officers at the time of the South African War. I am not sure what occasion the gift marked...but I think it might have been when he was made a Major...I believe it is the work of nuns in some convent and is worked on a dark green silk background in silver thread, the crown is made in velvet."
Blaikie-Hislop died of a cerebral hemorrage on D. Day in 1945 at the age of 74. The donor continures; "Much to his disgust he was too old for the army in World War Two, but he was an Air Raid Warden until his death, so he felt he was doing something. He did hear the news on the wireless on D. Day before he died."
Blaikie-Hislop was Captain of the 3rd Battlion in 1897 and Major of the 4th in 1905.
