Description Inter Company Tug-of-War winners medal, 1909. Awarded to Sgt. W. Caldwell. The medal takes the form of a hallmarked silver cross with a green band at the end of each arm. In the centre is a bronze Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Crest. Caldwell himself was killed at Ypres on 7th October 1918 while serving as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the 18th Highland Light Infantry.
The medal was donated with a copied photo of the winning team showing Sgt-Piper Caldwell (the Coach), Cpl. Burr, Pte. Gorham, Lce.-Cpl. Phillips, Pte. Tooth, Pte. Hawkins, Pte. Legg, Sgt. Meikle, Cr-Sgt. Duncan, Lce.-Sgt. Howe and Lt. F.G.W. Draffen. This is in the object history file. The Covenanter Vol XXVIII for March 1949 p.98 shows a photograph of the winning team - F Company, 2nd Battalion, including Caldwell. All shown are named.
