| Hallmarked silver bugle. The Cameronians badge in relief on the front. Engraved: Neuve Chapelle 10th March 1915. 'Presented by Leslie Seymour Bandmaster'. Musical note design around horn. Made by 'Hawkes & Son Makers London 24579'. Hallmarked.
Bandmaster’s Bugle. Bears the inscription ‘Neuve Chapelle 10th March 1915’, which refers to a period of particularly heavy loss for the 2nd Battalion. Between 10th and 14th March, 13 Officers and 112 Soldiers were killed.
Trustee Philip Grant visited the Museum on 21.08.09 to see the Precious exhibition. He believes that the bar of musical notes is the battalion's own bugle call. This would have been used before general orders given via bugle, to signal that the bugle instruction which followed was for the 2nd Battalion. |
