| Description
| Small pin badge showing the insignia of the 52nd (Lowland) Division. It bears a shield crossed by a saltire, blue background with a white cross. Underneath the shield is a scroll bearing the word Mountain in gold lettering on a blue background. The 52nd (Lowland) Division were a Territorial Division of the British Army. It comprised of Territorial battalions of the Scottish Lowland regiments. It served overseas in the First World War in Gallipoli and the Middle East. In World War Two the Division was trained for several years in mountain warfare, but was actually used in the liberation of Holland, a country almost completely flat in landscape that lies slightly below sea-level. The Division unofficially kept the 'Mountain' title which was worn on thier shoulder insignia along with the Saltire badge. The pin badge is a souvenir worn by men who served in the Division in the Second World War. This pin belonged to Jim Marler; he served with the 6th Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in the Second World War. He was badly wounded in the fierce fighting on the Dutch islands which resulted in the loss of his right arm. |
