Name/Title Painting: Portrait of William Stewart
Primary Maker Hunter, George Leslie
Measurements H 76 W 63.5cm (H 2' 5 15/16" W 2' 1")
Media/Materials oil on canvas
Description Oil painting. Showing a seated gentleman, wearing a suit and bowler hat, with an umbrella and gloves. Post impressionist in style (possibly 1920/1930s) - Hunter was one of the Scottish Colourists. Signed at bottom left.
Originally part of the Rutherglen collection, information from Rutherglen library states that painting was presented by L Hunter (but to whom is not recorded, whether it was an individul or organisation). The work is currently unframed but was framed at one time, and it is likely that the original frame carried the 'presented by' inscription, which is no longer present on the painting. There is no information about who Mr Stewart was, and his potential connection to Rutherglen.
